What if hearts reach each other?

Since 2008 the Global Coherence Initiative has been listening to the earth's magnetic field at 12 sites worldwide, searching it for traces of collective events. Whether it finds any is hotly contested. We show both sides, honestly.

Do you know the phenomenon of sinking deeper in a group meditation than alone? That is measurable: collective HRV synchronisation in practised groups (Vieten et al. 2018). What is not measurable: whether the field reaches someone who is not in the room.

I · Structure · Measurable

HeartMath GCI 2024 finds correlations between solar activity and HRV patterns (n=104, r=0.31). Independent-lab replication (Mayer 2022) shows smaller effects. Mainstream science remains reserved.

II · Flow · Tradition

Buddhist practice: mettā (loving-kindness) has been directed at the not-present for 2,500 years. Sufism: himma as spiritual force that acts across distance. Tradition claims reach. Science does not show it.

III · Breadth · Synthesis

Here we are at the edge. Local (co-regulation in the room) is established. Non-local (reach across distance) is not replicated by current standards. We honestly suspect: maybe. We do not claim.

Sit in a room full of people all doing the same thing, and you sink deeper than alone. That is not a feeling, it is measurement: in practised groups the hearts drift together, beat by beat. This far the proof reaches, and it reaches surprisingly far.

But you know the other question. You just thought of someone who is not in the room. Does anything reach them? The traditions say yes: metta has sent kindness to the absent for two thousand years, the Sufis call it himma, a force across distance. The instruments say nothing. What goes beyond the door is neither refuted nor shown.

Here is the honest boundary. As far as the room door: certain. Past it: a maybe, which we say out loud so no one mistakes it for knowledge.
